Why “Awesome”?

"So you named your domain, 'jasonawesome.com'.  Isn't that a little...oh I don't know...a little self serving?"

I get that question a lot when I tell folks my blog so I thought I would clear up the whole "you must really think alot of yourself to name your blog Jason Awesome".  I posted a blog post about this, but I thought it was worth repeating since I have continually got questions about it.

It all started one chilly winter day when I was ordering DirecTV for my house.  I had called DirecTV to sign up, and the conversation went a little like this:

Me: Hey, I want to get DirecTV

DirecTV Dude: Great!  Can I get your first and last name?  And your address?  And your social security number?  And...

Me: You are an excited dude....I'll give you all that info if you just take a breath....

DirecTV Dude: Heh...yeah.  Ok...I'm a little hyper...

Me: No way...really?

DirecTV Dude: Yeah, so I need your first and last name.

Me: Jason.....Austin

DirecTV Dude: Did you say awesome?

Me: Austin...A - U - S - T -

DirecTV Dude: OHHHHHH!

Me: Yeah, like the city in Texas.

DirecTV Dude: It'd be so much cooler if your last name was "Awesome"

Me: Maybe I'll change it up like Ocho Cinco

DirecTV Dude: Who?

Me: Nevermind

Anyway, you get the point.  Dude thought Austin == Awesome, and therefore, I got JasonAwesome.com because I thought it was a cool domain and it wasn't taken yet :)
